Abusers use these records regularly. A survivor who has moved, changed her phone number, and cut off contact can still be located within weeks of purchasing a new home — simply because her name appears on a deed.
It doesn't stop at county records. Sites like Spokeo, Whitepages, and BeenVerified automatically pull from public records and republish the information. When your name appears on a deed, it flows into commercial databases that anyone can search — often for free.
There are steps you can take. Purchase through a Wyoming LLC — the deed shows the LLC name, not yours, and Wyoming does not disclose member names in public business filings. Request data broker removal — existing records about you can be removed from major people-search sites, with ongoing monitoring for re-listings. Use a P.O. box for all official correspondence — tax bills, lender mail, and other documents should never go to your home address.
